New Schedule in effect June 8th, 2021

Hello WILA parents and players,

Now that the curfew has been lifted, there will be a few changes to the practice schedule which will hopefully alleviate some of the pressure some of you are feeling in getting to practice on time, while still being do-able for our coaches. The new times are posted on teamsnap, and available on the schedule tab of the site.

Here is a quick update of what we know and what we are planning in the near future. First of all, we would like to thank you all for your consistent attendance and great participation at practice. Thank you for continuing to respect the guidelines set by NTR which we have a contractual obligation to fulfill, continued hand sanitizing for players and parents and wearing of masks while on the NTR property must continue until we hear otherwise.  Thank you all for the positive feedback and constructive comments that some of you have given while we all try to navigate through our ever-changing COVID restrictions.

Before we get down to business, a HUGE THANK YOU to all of our dedicated coaches. You have all helped breath new life into the association with your incredible enthusiasm and knowledge that you continue to give to the players. The players are all having fun while learning more and more about this awesome sport. The addition of the non-contact scrimmages at the end of practice has added yet another level to the practice.

We do appreciate the parents who have offered to help out the coaches on the floor, however, we are in a situation where we almost have too many coaches, what a great problem to have! Should we require an extra hand, we will certainly call on you.

2021 SUMMER BOX LACROSSE SEASON

YES, WE WILL BE PLAYING….

The FCQ has just announced the schedule and guidelines for our 2021 summer season...EXCITING!!!!

Essentially, this is the breakdown of some of the key points that were announced at the FCQ meeting that we attended on June 1st.

  • As we have already started doing, we will continue to scrimmage in a non-contact format as per the Health regulations.
  • Games vs. other associations with limited numbers will potentially start as of June 25th and will be organized by the FCQ.
  • The FCQ is currently working on organizing jamborees from the end of June until August 21st. Details to follow
  • Since we do not have an outdoor facility (official playing surface size) in the West Island, we will not be able to host any teams, we will always play away.
  • As we (Island of Montreal) change zone colors, the potential for “normal” playing conditions gets better.
  • In light of the delay of the start of the season, many associations are willing to continue playing until mid-August. We are going to send out a re-registration for the added 5 weeks, those interested can re-register. The commitment post July 10th would most likely be for one practice/week as well as games and Jamborees. The fee for the re-registration will be to cover floor space as well as officials and  will be nominal.  More details to come once we have information.

EQUIPMENT

Effective Tuesday June 8th, players are strongly encouraged to start coming to practice with full equipment. Once games start, whether there is contact or not, players will be required to wear full equipment. Practicing with full equipment feels very different, itt will be better to get accustomed to playing with passing. It will also protect players from incidental contact. Please check out the following link which will let you know the basic equipment requirements:

Most hockey equipment can be used for younger level players if you already have some. Bicep protectors can be added to hockey shoulder pads.

If you are looking to purchase some equipment, we strongly recommend Stinger sports in Valois village (where the old Frazer's used to be). The staff is incredibly helpful and knowledgeable in addition to having a great selection of lacrosse equipment. https://m.facebook.com/stingersport/

PINNIES

If you have not received a pinnie yet, please know that we have ordered more and we will be sure that every player at every level will have one for the season. Please know that the pinnies are to be washed and returned at the end of the season.

GOALIES

We are currently looking into setting up a couple of goalie clinics for all of our fearless netminders. Please stay tuned, we have not forgotten about you : )

MISSING EQUIPMENT

If anybody has any equipment (Goalie equipment, lacrosse ball bags) or jerseys from last year, we would ask that you please bring them to the next practice and leave it with your coach who will then give it to one of the committee members. Many individual players from last year were told that they could keep their jersey, no problem with that, if you were a coach and have a bag of jerseys at home, we would appreciate their return.
